This is a photo of Acapulco from my first trip to Mexico in June of 1984. I went with some other people I knew in college. We flew into Mexico City and spent the first few days on guided tours of Mexico City, Teotihuacan, Taxco and Cuernavaca either by bus or on foot with a tour guide. We finally ended up in Acapulco the last two or three days of a one week vacation. In Acapulco we did not go on any tours of the city but rather just relaxed and enjoyed the beach, the bar and music at the hotel.

This photo was taken during a two week trip I made in December of 1988 to spend Christmas and New Year with some friends from Guadalajara. Christmas was spent in Guadalajara Mexico and New Year in Bucerias just outside of Puerto Vallarta. Christmas is a wonderful holiday to spend in Mexico. It’s full of fun, visiting family and friends, parties and posadas(December 16 to December 24 representing Mary’s and Joseph’s passage to find a place to stay for the birth of Jesus) followed by a large Christmas dinner Christmas Eve night, which was held at my friends grandmother’s house during my visit. There were a lot of people and so much food at the Christmas Eve dinner. There was another day where we went to a big party where a group of us got together and prayed and then formed a big circle to say something about Christmas or whatever came to mind about the holidays. A couple of days before New Years Day, we drove to Bucerias and stayed in a house they had by the beach and ushered in the new year. I again had to use my digital camera to take a photo of an old photo and then upload it, so the quality is not that good

This is a photo of the Pyramid of the Moon that I took from the top of the Pyramid of the Sun in 1986 in Teotihuacan Mexico just outside of Mexico City. I went to Mexico City to visit some friends and the parents of one of them drove us there. It was the second time I went to Teotihuacan. The photo is of poorer quality because it was taken with an old camera. I had to take the print and photograph it with my digital camera which seemed to make it worse. Teotihuacan reached its peak in 450 CE

In June of 2007 I went whale watching in Gloucester Massachusetts near Boston. There were two humpback whales that the boat followed for a while as they came up for air from time to time. It was really fun and the crew taught us a lot about whales and so on. I’ve been on two other whale watches. One in Cape May New Jersey and one in Honolulu Hawaii but did not see any whales. The one in Gloucester was the best one. I went with family members and we used Captain Bill’s Whale Watch. The boat went some distance out from shore, probably about 15 or 20 miles, to an area called Stellwagen Bank where the whales eat. The photo with this post was one of many that were taken during the whale watch.

I went to Honolulu for ten days in January of 2008. It was a lot of fun. I went on a whale watch with a lunch buffet and a luau which I booked through Big Kahuna Hawaii, and a bus tour of the city and tour of Pearl Harbor which I may have booked through Big Kahuna Hawaii. Some things I did via local public buses like when I went to Iolani’s Palace from when Hawaii was ruled by kings and queens or to the flea market at the stadium(this was bit of a ride since my hotel was near Waikiki beach), and Chinatown. Sometimes I walked to where I needed. Other interesting places I went to were the Ala Moana Center which is a shopping mall on Ala Moana Blvd near Waikiki Beach and the International Market Place on Kalakaua Avenue.
I had a hard time choosing a photo to post with this since I had taken so many. So I decided to use one that I took near the hotel where I was staying on Ala Moana Blvd while I was at the bus stop waiting for the bus after it rained and there was a hugh rainbow. Waikiki Beach runs behind the buildings(many of them hotels) on the left.

In September of 2008 I had the oportunity to go to Mexico City(been there so many times that I lost count) and see Juan Gabriel (Juanga) in concert. The concert was great. It lasted a little over three hours. The best part was a lot of Mariachi players came right out into the audience and played while Juan Gabriel sang.

Getting around Mexico City can be done by taxi which is cheap, or by bus and metro. The metro costs 3 pesos now(it was still 2 pesos last time I was there). Interesting places that are easy to get to on the metro are Zona Rosa which is known for its restaurants, nightclubs, bars, boutiques and stores. Zona Rosa is accessible from metro stop Insurgentes on the pink line(Line 1). The historic center or Contitution Plaza is located at metro stop Zocalo on Line 2(blue line). At Zocalo you’ll find many government buildings, churches and shops. Another interesting area is outside of metro stop Balderas on Line 1(pink line). Outside Balderas there are many stands selling many types of items like books, clothes, crafts and more. Another area of interest is metro stop Isabel la Católica on the pink line(line 1) where there are many stores and restaurants.

A lot can also be found on the Mexico City Tourism Ministry site. You can find restaurants, shops, museums and more.

The accompanying photo was taken during the trip just outside Insurgentes metro stop. I don’t remember who the statue was.
